Kelly Lawn & Property Maintenance

A Day in the Adams Lake Community

On Friday’s we provide lawn maintenance and mowing services for the Adams Lake community located on Normandy Blvd just off of the First Coast Express Way toll road. This is the first community we started serving way back in 2014 and we’ve been mowing there ever since.  We thought we’d share some photos and experiences from a typical day in this friendly neighborhood.

St. Augustine Grass: Brown Patch Issues

During the summer, this is one of our fastest growing and most beautiful lawns after mowing.  It’s a very thick, dark green St. Augustine lawn with a backyard along a wooded area that usually has naturally growing blackberries that hang over the grass. This spring the front lawn is looking particularly bad, most likely due to Brown Patch disease. Raking out some of the dead leaf blades, treating with a fungicide and covering the bare areas with some topsoil would be advisable and help the existing grass to quickly spread.

The First Mowing of New Sod

We started mowing this lawn for the first in 2025.  The front lawn was looking pretty rough and consisted mostly of bare dirt and a few weeds.  The owner decided to freshen things up with the installation of some new sod in the front. They even had the oak tree trimmed up quite a bit to allow for more sunlight to reach the new grass. I’m pretty sure this lawn wasn’t irrigated in the past, but hopefully at least the front will be from now on, otherwise this St. Augustine sod will probably have a difficult time this summer.

Cleaning up a Tall Lawn

This yard was definitely in need of a spring cleanup and we were excited to get it back in shape. It consists mostly of weeds.  You can see the large patches of Carolina Geranium and the flowers of the Rough Fleabane waving around in the wind. As you can see from the “after” photo, even a weedy lawn looks pretty good after mowing it nice and short.

Two Very Nice Lawns

These are two of the nicer lawns that we take care of in Adams Lake (minus the backpack blower). We have been taking care of both of them for over 10 years and we’re grateful to the owners for the opportunity. The second uses rocks in the flowerbeds which looks really nice and words out well when there aren’t big hedges to trim. We’re looking forward to another year keeping these two lawns in tip-top shape.

Some Wildlife in Adams Lake

There’s always more to enjoy than just mowing yards in this community. On this particular Friday, we got to see some geese and ducks. The Canadian geese and their gosling were enjoying their selves under the Elm tree when we started mowing but quickly headed for the pond. The Mallard ducks didn’t delay in joining them.
